Anousheh Ansari: Adventures of a Space Tourist
On September 18, 2006, businesswoman Anousheh Ansari met many "firsts." She became the first female "space tourist," the first Muslim woman to travel to space, and the first person of Iranian descent to travel into space. She performed experiments, published dispatches, and even blogged from the International Space Station for eight days.
While Anousheh has long supported space travel through sponsoring spacecraft competitions and space-related partnerships, she is also a businesswoman. In 1993, she co-founded Telecom Technologies, Inc. with her husband and brother-in-law. Telecom Technologies, Inc. was acquired by Sonus Networks, Inc. seven years later for approximately $550 million.
In 2006, Anousheh co-founded Prodea Systems and served as its first Chief Executive Officer.
